PhD students
In France, the doctorate involves training for and through research and is generally prepared with a Doctoral School. The research work is carried out in a research unit and under the supervision of a thesis director.
Doctoral studies take between 3 years (natural and technological sciences) and up to a maximum of 6 years (social sciences and humanities).
